“John Smith is an accomplished, seasoned thought leader who has won a million awards and accrued a lot of capital letters that he can put at the end of his name. Blah blah results oriented blah blah core competency buy-in etc. etc ad infinitum.”
Are you asleep yet? I almost nodded off writing that silly, imaginary bio – I’m sorry for putting you through that!
The truth is, a lot of professional bios and pitches sound just like that.
Dry, corporate slang.
Paragraph after personality-free paragraph.
When you’re limited to the written word, it can be hard to capture who you really are while highlighting what makes you a phenomenal real estate agent/coach/ photographer. Where do you include your love for travel and cheesecake? When is the appropriate time to tell potential clients that you’re multi-lingual and you make to-die-for sushi?
This is the very reason I think it’s so important that you master that art of in-person communication and video. When we’re chatting face-to-face or I’m watching your video, I can hear the cadence of your voice. I can see exactly how passionate you are. I can read in your body language that you’re someone I want taking my photos or selling my home.
For the last few months, I’ve been helping Gibson International real estate agents make profile videos (you can see examples here) and to prepare many of them have been taking my Market Your Message course. And their feedback? It’s day-making:
“Thanks again for making me look so good and preparing me so well!! Seriously…I have NEVER felt so comfortable in front of a camera….you are an ANGEL.”
If you (and your business) need help communicating who you are, I’d love to help. For the next 24 hours, I’m offering a $10 discount on my Market Your Message course. Use code 10offmym at checkout. But get it while it’s hot! This offer expires at 9/27.
What are you waiting for? The world needs more interesting bios and inspiring pitches. You can help!
